BIOGRAPHY
Simran Shah is a composer, performer, and producer based in Los Angeles. Mesmerized at an early age by music’s transformative nature, she developed her voice through piano, saxophone, and, more recently, tabla. Her curiosity and technical range led her to wide-ranging musical opportunities growing up, from performing at Carnegie Hall’s Weil Recital Hall to touring across Europe, and later to industry roles including interning on the Broadway musical Water for Elephants (2024) and at Antfood, a leading audio studio specializing in sonic branding, original music, and sound design.
In 2025, Shah graduated from Haverford College with a bachelor’s degree in music and a concentration in composition. Her work draws from a broad spectrum of musical styles, from Western classical music, to South Asian traditions, to electronic/experimental music. She enjoys composing everything from sweeping orchestral textures to ambient soundscapes to synth-driven scores.
Her recent projects include the score for the feature film 60 Dates in 6 Months with a Broken Neck, directed by Scott Leslie and adapted from Maureen Anne Meehan’s award-winning novel. The film has earned recognition at festivals including Cannes. Shah also co-composed the score for the short film Hiking the Tide, directed by Ian McClure, in collaboration with composer Adrian Vasquez. Both films will be released in 2026.
Shah’s senior thesis at Haverford College, Roses for the Hidden One, is a song cycle for soprano and piano. Consisting of four songs and a piano interlude, the work sets English translations of ghazals written by the Sufi poet and Mughal princess Zeb-un-Nissa (alias “Makhfi”). The work honors the poet’s legacy and tells her story: one marked by tragedy yet defined by resilience and unrelenting pride. The cycle highlights Zeb-un-Nissa’s strong sense of self and spiritual devotion, even as her voice was repeatedly suppressed.
At the heart of Simran’s musical interests lies a deep passion for collaborating with and learning from all types of artists. She would love to use her musical voice alongside performers, visual artists, writers, and anyone else, to create something beautiful in its own, unique way.
